Call yourself a feminist and people will immediately think you are a man-hating, bra-burning woman who doesn’t shave. When ultimately feminism is a movement that supports equal rights between both genders, in the plainest definition of course.
Recently feminism has come back in full effect with people pushing the idea we still need feminism even today and create a new term/movement called ‘modern feminism’ .
Modern feminism real or just a new trend to follow?
An online campaign took the internet by storm ‘#WhoNeedsFeminism?’ triggering young people, mainly women to engage in a positive movement in order “to fight back against these popular misconceptions surrounding the feminist movement” and it seems as it is working. Millions of submissions were sent to ‘WhoNeedsFeminism’ expressing why feminism is important today. “I need feminism because people should not be surprised when they ask to speak to a manager and they see me -a Short, blonde woman” A statement every woman should agree with. Well, I certainly do. Does this make me a ‘modern feminist’ because I agree with what this movement is fighting for? I don’t think I’m ready just yet to call myself as a feminist… Maybe its the ‘man-hating, bra-burning woman who doesn’t shave’ stigma attached to it! What do you think is ‘modern feminism a good thing or just a new online trend for young people?’
